We continued our study of Abstract Art Thursday morning with Wassily Kandinsky.
Wassily Kandinsky (pronounced Vasilly) December 16,1866 –December 13, 1944, was an influential Russian painter and art theorist and also played the cello and piano.
Kandinsky is considered the father of abstract painting.
In an effort to capture sound and emotion in art, he painted some of the first major abstract works.
He is credited with painting one of the first purely abstract works.
We looked at several of his abstract and non-abstract paintings but our inspiration of the day was Circles in a Circle.

The students began by drawing straight lines using a ruler inside the large black construction paper circle that was glued onto the white paper.

Then using primary colored crayons, the students drew and/or colored some large circles, some small circles, some circles within other circles—inside the large black construction paper circle that was glued onto the white paper.

And we have Circles in a Circle-esque art!!!

In the afternoon, Dr. Howard's Thematic Teaching, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, and Health and Nutrition Safety classes that have been meeting in our building this week prepared a wonderful art project for all the classes.
The students painted to different types and tempos of music to go along with us talking about emotions and feelings in paintings this week and also with different painting tools and they had a great time!
