 Today we learned about Post-impressionism.
Post-impressionists had learned about using light, shadows, and colors in their art from the Impressionists.
They wanted to add their own new ideas to art.
They began to try new subjects, techniques, perspectives, and shapes to express their thoughts and emotions in art.

Our artist of the day was Alberto Giacometti.
Alberto Giacometti (October 10 1901 – January 11, 1966)  was a Swiss sculptor, painter, and printmaker and was a well-known post-Impressionist painter.

Our inspiration of the day was Giacometti's "ThreeMen Walking II."

To begin we started rolling a wooden skewer in a piece of tin foil, to give a little structure and support to the figure.

We left a couple of inches of foil at one end without the stick in it so that it could later be folded to create a head. Next we folded over the top to create the base for a head, then we tore another couple of small pieces of foil and wrapped those around to bulk it up.

Using 4 longer strips, we then folded them over to create the arms and legs. We looked at how Giacometti elongated the limbs and made them as long as possible. Some even turned out the feet and hands and then we stuck them to the torso using tape.
