Tuesday's adventure

our morning message

we have a class mascot. I would like to introduce you to Max, the whale. He will be visiting your homes soon with his journal so that you can help him record his summer adventures. The students voted on the name :)

we had our first weekly visit to the public library and had an awesome time watching Russell Davis from Huntsville, a magician. You should have also received your child's summer reading log. The students are to read 5+ books and record them. At the end of the summer, they will receive a prize from the public library when their completed log is turned in. :)

the students also created a list of classroom rules that they named the "manners chart."

1. Keep your hands a feet to yourself.
2. Walk, don't run.
3. Be respectful to your teacher.
4. Clean up after yourself.
5. Share.
6. Raise your hand.
7. Use your inside voice inside, and your outside voice outside.

The students then signed their names to the rules they created making their pledge to abide by the classroom rules. :)

we also made sandpaper starfish in art to start working on our bulletin board. the students drew the starfish, decorated them, and cut them out.

we have a few minutes set aside before lunch each day for our chapter book read-aloud. Monday we started reading Dark Day in the Deep Sea which is a Jack and Annie book. I was not familiar with this series until preparing for summer but I will be using these books in my classroom this fall as well. I always stop mid-sentence as a cliffhanger and the students go crazy. I love listening to their predictions and their eagerness to come to the group rug to listen to me read to them!

"Jack and Annie continue their quest for the secrets of happiness–secrets they need if they’re going to save Merlin. But when the magic tree house leads them to a tiny deserted island in the middle of the ocean, they’re not sure who needs help more–Merlin or themselves! The brother and sister team are soon rescued by a ship of explorers and scientists. But the crew isn’t looking for the secrets of happiness. The crew is looking for . . . a sea monster!"
